Cross Cultural Artistic Encounters in the Eastern Mediterranean
This book brings together four essays about calligraphy and the arts of the book in the Eastern Mediterranean during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. It was published in conjunction with an exhibition on the Ottoman calligrapher Şeyh Hamdullah (d. 1520) held at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum on the 500th anniversary of his death, as well as a workshop held at the museum, “Paper and Things: Material Mobility Between East and West,” jointly promotedby two separate People In Motion Work Groups: Things in Motion, led by Professor Rosita D’Amora from Salento University in Lecce, and Paper in Motion, headed by Professor José María Pérez Fernández from the University of Granada.
